My Art Debut

Today was my art debut! It was the opening reception of the Annual Art Student Exhibition at CSUN. My piece, Steps, was one of 80 pieces chosen out of 300 pieces!!!! If you missed it don't worry it will be running from April 29th- June 2nd at the Main Gallery in the Art Dept at CSUN, it's on Plummer and Etiwanda. I can't even really tell you how excited I was when I approached the art gallery. The music was very fun and enchanting. The crowd was fairly large filled with fellow students, faculty, art lovers, and supporting friends and family.

When I entered the gallery and saw the caliber of work that was accepted, I felt accomplished. It definately was a humbling experience to see all the great art in the gallery and know that I was chosen to be among them. Once I found my piece, my face was lit with a big smile. It was weird having my art on the wall for all to stop and see. I hovered near by a large portion of the night to hear people's response, comments, and answer questions. At first I was a little sneaky lol! I stood near the piece and talked to people about it and then revealed I was the artist responsible. It was very interesting to see their reaction.

It was great to have friends there to support me and share in the moment. I greatly appreciated it!!! I know I'll have many more friends and family to come out and share the moment with me. All I can say is I have the biggest smile on my face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Class

After being away from class because of spring break, it was great to be back. Not everyone can stand a 6 hour class but it really is a great way to spend a friday surprisingly. I began working on my next project in Illustration 2. Its an illustration for tea or coffee box with a cultural influence. I think this will be a very cool project! I picked Africa as my cultural influence. It is going to be a bit challenging but definately fun. The background is an African Motif designed by myself! :) with a rustic, stone teacup. In the cup is an African red roobios tea with smoke flaring out in the shape of elephants, gazelles, apes, bananas, sweet peppers, cinnamon, etc.

Tonight I'm going to work out the background drawing and finish the final line drawing to get painting!

This weekend I am dedicating it to getting at least 2 paintings done so I can get cracking on my 100 paintings of '05. Oh yeah and I'm turning in my character designs and fictional city idea for the children's magazine I'm illustrating. I'm going to be published in June!!!!! I'm so excited. I am one step closer on the Road to Artdom! :)

Wish me luck and encouragement! Pictures soon to come. Comments and suggestions always a plus !!!
